Biography

 

Heath trained in South Africa and has worked as a sports physiotherapist for over 14 years. He is passionate about sport and sports medicine and his passion has moulded his career.
He began as team physiotherapist for professional rugby, soccer, athletics and cycling teams in South Africa, while based out of Kings Park Sports Medicine Centre in Durban from 2003 to 2006. He formed close working relationships with two professional tennis players which lead him to the professional tennis circuit where he worked on both the men’s and women’s tours for two years. Heath worked with multiple top 10 ranked players and his work with top Indian players Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi, facilitated his transition into the position of Director of Performance for the Mittal Champions Trust.
The subsequent four years were spent managing the sports science and medicine programs for 40 of India’s top Olympic Athletes in 8 Olympic Sports including Athletics, Archery, Boxing, Badminton, Sailing, Swimming, Squash, Shooting and Wrestling. During this time he travelled with multiple National Teams to their respective World Championships and other international competitions. The highlight was the Beijing Olympics with the Indian Team 2008.
Heath has spent the past 5 years managing the Centre for Sports Medicine at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, as well as sharing his love of distance running with Anil Ambani. He has been involved in development of the Centre for Sports Medicine as well as setting up the sports science and medicine programs, training staff, consulting with sports people from grass roots level to professional athletes.
Heath has been a regular columnist for the Times of India and The Hindustan Times which he sees as valuable ways of reaching more like minded sports enthusiasts with the message of health and fitness.
His passion to teach and desire to help as many people as he can has prompted him launch Jiofit.com. This website is a culmination of all Heath’s experience rolled up into one neat package.
Heath is a specialist in sports and physical performance and has a particular interest in program design and fitness development. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Physiotherapy from the University of Cape Town. He is also a qualified kinesiology taping instructor, dry needling practitioner and kettlebell instructor.
